Record Steenbuck!!

A very proud Bruce Johnson from America hunted this record Steenbuck male in the Free State Province of South Africa during the 2008 season.

After returning from a leopard hunt in Namibia Bruce visited one of the World to Africa Hunting lodges in the Free State to hunt a Black Wildebeest and trophy Steenbuck.

The hunt started in the afternoon and after walking the grass plains for a few hours he decided to look for the shade of a tree during the afternoon heat.Bruce and the PH laid down a while and when looking around after the rest the PH spotted a pair of horns in the long grass.Bruce slowly lifted his rifle and placed a very good shot on the vitals.The Steenbuckwent down on the spot and when they reached the beautiful animal they saw the massive horns!!

The biggest horn measured 6″ and Rowland Ward is only 4 1/2″,this was the biggest Steenbuck ever hunted on the Free State farm and will always be very special to us. 

Bruce hunted most of the plains game species in Africa and quoted that his record Steenbuck is one of his favourite trophies.

The Steenbuck is truly a magnificent little antelope and is one of the only animals that actually groom themselves to stay in a very good shape.
